だれにでもチャンスがある、というのは嘘でも幻想でもない。だが、自分はどういう人生を望むか、という戦略がない人間には最初からチャンスがない。自分が何をしたいかが分かっているからその目標に従って科学的な努力が可能になる。戦略を行使するためのモチベーションの対象を持っているか持っていないかですべてが決まってしまう。そして、モチベーションの対象を持っている人は、全体の数パーセントだろう、彼らは自分の人生を選択する。自分の人生を選択するために、自分の資源をチェックし、モチベーションの対象に集中して投資するのだ。この世の中には、それができる人と、できない人がいるだけで、それ以外にはいない。きっかけも秘訣も苦労も関係がない。
